Colubrids and House Snakes
Colubrids are the largest family of snakes, encompassing corn and rat snakes, hognose snakes, racers, king snakes and milk snakes, grass snakes, and many other common and recognizable species in the hobby.

African house snakes, in the family Lamprophiidae, are similar to many colubrids in size, care, and behavior, but they are their own family that are most closely related to elapids. Elapidae is characterized by venom, but African house snakes are nonvenomous and completely harmless.
